I took my students to the library so they could check out books for non-assigned, pleasure reading.

:) Me, too! And their days are so programmed that many of them don't have time to go to the library on their own, so every now and then I try to fit a visit in during English class.

Agreed! Whenever one of my students whips out a book after finishing up a task I think, "Kindred spirit!"

I did the crappiest research ever--the only thing we could do was an hour, in 2 thirty minute increments, in our computer lab where most of the internet is blocked by our crazy firewall. And then the band had two trips, both on days when my classes were in the computer lab, so many kids didn't get to do any research at all. (And we won't even talk about the kids who didn't listen the 20-30 times I said "write down these seven things about your websites for citation".) BUT! The kids now know that they can't just copy something without giving credit, so I'm going to call it a win. And I *mostly* kept my temper, too!

Oh wow - that sounds so frustrating!

The kids now know that they can't just copy something without giving credit, so I'm going to call it a win.

High five! All of their teachers from here on out will thank you. You just fought an epic battle on their behalf.

I taught a few kids the difference between a pentagon, hexagon and octagon.

I think that pythagoras and trigonometry, although interesting and one of the only things I managed to get my head around in secondary school maths, might be a little beyond my kids...

Although, I guess it is a start...

Sadly some of the children are still having trouble with the triangle, square, rectangle distinction...
